January 2014

John spent 6 days of his holiday break in Antarctica on board the Ocean Nova, a modified Icebreaker. The ship explored the Antarctic Peninsula to 65’10” South and John got to see fascinating scenery and wildlife and learned much of the history and ecology of this spectacular region.
The trip went out of Chile and John then spent some time in Santiago and Atacama in Northern Chile before returning to New Zealand. Following a more traditional week at the beach John returned to work in Mid January and has been busy planning this years activities including a trip to Kuala Lumpur to study endoscopic thyroidectomy procedures, Singapore for the RACS meeting, New York for the American Head and Neck Society meeting and Queenstown for an endocrine thyroid meeting. John Has started off with a busy year of work and has recently written an article for the Medical Specialists Directory on HPV related Orophayrngeal Cancer.
