Parotidectomy

I recently performed a successful parotidectomy on a patient from outside of Auckland who travelled here to specifically have her surgery by me. The procedure went well and there were no complications. I reviewed her last week and her pathology was not reported by the laboratory prior to the appointment. I contacted her over the weekend when the results showing a benign salivary gland tumour (called a pleomorphic adenoma) had finally come through and she sent me this lovely message. I thought I would share.
Kia ora John,
Thank you for sending through the histology report, I am very happy you are going on holiday soon as it appears you work seven days a week :(
I must admit the report needed some googling, so I really appreciated your reassuring summary to introduce the results.
Thank you for all your compassionate care from the initial consult, pre and post op hospital conversations and subsequent appointment. You must get told this often, but you are exceptionally good, and I am very, very grateful for your expertise and skill but also how you supported me through this surgery.
Massive thanks for the update and wishing you and your family the safest, enjoyable, and restorative holiday.
Noho ora mai,
SM
